How to Collaborate and Share Design Concepts Online

ConceptShare is a web-based service where you can publish and share design ideas. It helps to communicate your ideas and get feedback from other members of your team and customers during a project.

It's a service that can be used by web developers, like the well known Basecamp and the helpful Harvest, but can also be applied to other areas of design such as architecture, decoration, fashion and desktop publishing.

You can publish your projects in ConceptShare as workspaces and each workspace can contain multiple concepts and many participants. Registration is free and there's no additional fee if you only need to maintain up to one workspace. Paid plans start at US$ 19 per month for 20 workspaces.

Working with ConceptShare involves four steps:

  1. Creating a workspace.
  2. Uploading your concepts.
  3. Inviting participants.
  4. Interacting and getting feedback.

Creating a workspace is quite easy; just choose a name, fill in some description and choose a category.

To upload a concept select a file from your computer. ConceptShare supports JPG, PNG and GIF files, as well as Adobe's PDF and soon will work with some CAD applications. You can also point it to a URL and ConceptShare will get a snapshot for you.

Now you can invite others to join your workspace, just enter their email addresses and they will receive a message with a link. New participants just fill their name and choose a password to start working in the workspaces you've decided to share.

Workspace's participants can opt-in to receive email alerts when new concepts are added or their comments get a reply. They can also ask for a daily delivered summary.

The workspace is the heart and soul of ConceptShare. It's a Flash-based application where every participant can add comments and use simple drawing tools to express ideas.

Each comment can get replies and represents an independent layer on top of the concept. It's quite easy browsing through all the comments and participants connected at the same time to ConceptShare can engage in real-time chat.

Take a look at ConceptShare, it's a great idea and I'm sure it will have a positive impact in the way you design on the Web.
